Womens and Girls Football Update

Published Fri 02 Sep 2022

As many current members would be we aware, PASC are still very much in the early days of the rebirth of Women's and Girls football at the Club and despite it being very much in it's infancy, we have already achieved a lot in the past 3 seasons including growing the number of teams from zero in 2019 to three in 2022, female players participating in every single grade at the club, and several players being selected for the Football SA SIP and SAP programs.

Despite these successes, we are also fully aware that there are still many areas that the Club can grow and improve the football experience for our female players. Over the last few months, the Club has spent some time sourcing feedback from the coaches on areas that we can improve and this, alongside feedback that has been offered by players and parents, has helped the Club determine some high level goals to focus on over the next few years. We would like to take this opportunity to share them with you now.

Fielding a Women's Team in 2023

The number one priority for next season is to field a Women's team in the Football SA Community League competition. 2023 is a significant year for our Club and Women's football with Australia and New Zealand co-hosting the World Cup and PASC celebrating our 120th Birthday. The Club has already sought interest from players in the U15s team and will shortly begin externally advertising for players.

Field teams in all girls grades by 2025

The second high level goal is to field at least one girls team in every grade by season 2025. To clarify, the grades that Football SA currently offer are U7, U9, U11, U13, U15 and U17, should FSA make changes to the competition structure, the Club would of course reassess accordingly. Achieving this goal would provide an unbroken pathway for our female players right the way through from U7s to Women's Senior football.

Longer Term Goals

The Club has identified some longer term goals, not limited to but including:

- Identifying, developing, educating and retaining high quality coaches

- Creating and maintaining girls specific development programs and pathways (i.e. through our partnership with the JA7 Academy)

- Continued and consistent representation of PASC players in State teams and SIP and SAP programs

- Primary Women's team to compete in WNPL or State League competition

- Consistently fielding multiple Women's and Girls teams each and every year
