VOLUNTEER DRIVE

Over the last few weeks, our committee members have been actively promoting the need for volunteer assistance from our members to aid the running of our Club. For members who may be unaware, the day-to-day running of PASC and the entire Junior and MiniRoos football program is run by unpaid volunteers. Throughout our 117-year history, we have prided ourselves on being a community club that is owned, managed and supported by our members. Since PASC relocated to Taperoo Reserve, the number of Juniors and MiniRoos players has DOUBLED from approximately 100 in the 2018 season to 203 in 2020! Our existing group of volunteers have been working extremely hard during this unprecedented and exciting period of growth and are now looking share the load among the broader Pirates family.

How can you help?

There are many ways you can get involved, however the areas with the most pressing need are:

  • 1. Sunday Canteen/bar (please volunteer when it is your child’s teams turn)
  • 2. Friday Canteen/bar (shifts are approximately 1.5hrs in length and can be regular, semiregular or fill-in)
  • 3. Age Group Coordinators (an age group specific contact person/spokesperson that acts as a conduit between players/parents and the Club)
  • 4. Game Day Referees (U8, U9 and U10 home games)
  • 5. Linespersons (Each Junior team is required to supply 1 linesperson for each game)
  • 6. Equipment Assistants (assist the coach and/or team manager with the setup and pack up of equipment at training and on game days)

For items 1, 2 and 3, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator Fran Hughes (volunteers@portpirates.com.au), Dan Drummond (Junior Coordinator) or David Arnold (MiniRoos Coordinator)

For further information on items 4, 5 and 6, please discuss with your child’s coach.

SUNDAY CANTEEN UPDATE

A huge thank you to Sue, Brett, Andrea, Kylie, Deb, Lee-Marie, Laura and Jan who all volunteered in the canteen on Sunday, 5th July alongside our ever-presents Carolyn and Georgia.

This weekend (Sunday, 12th July), it is the turn of U8 Gold (8-10am) and U7 White (10am-12pm)At the time of writing, we still require one more volunteer from both U8 Gold and U7 White. If you are able to assist, please let your coach know asap to ensure we are not short staffed.

SENIORS UPDATE

Last Saturday saw our Senior team resume their season in fine style with a 4-1 win over Adelaide University to move up to 3rd in the State League 2 table. The Reserves went down in a narrow 1-0 loss while our U18s are top of the table after a thrilling 4-3 win.

Up next are Northern Demons @Taperoo Reserve on Saturday, 11th July. You can find further information on our website. Hope to see you there!

THE PIRATES ARE PODCAST STARS!

2020 has been full of firsts and that has continued recently with Nova 919 announcer and well-known local MC Jarrod Walsh (along with his buddy Matt Burgess) jumping on the Pirates bandwagon via their podcast Best Team Men. Jarrod is planning to head on down to tomorrow’s Seniors game so if you are there please say hi! You can listen to most recent episode of their Podcast here in which our beloved club features heavily. Anyone who wants to join the Pirates family is alright by us!
