The Secretaries Message for the opening of the Premier League was as follows:
I would like to say welcome to members, players & supporters of the Port Adelaide Lion ‘PIRATES’ and the Adelaide CSC ‘Raiders’ on this historic day, the opening of the inaugural season of the S.A.S.F. ‘Premier League’.
We here at John Hart Reserve invite you all to make use of our bar and catering facilities during the afternoon. You are also most welcome in the Clubrooms after the match.
During the ‘off season’ we have recruited some new blood to help bolster our playing ranks, these players are: George Haralabakis & Bill Misailidis (both ex Olympians), Chris Groom & Joe Berlingeri (ex Para Hills), both of these players were members of the Australian High Schools (U/20) team that toured Hong Kong & China earlier this year (1994). Chris being the Captain of that team. Sava Athanasiadis, Nek Klironomos & Heath Robertson (West Adelaide). The ‘Dairy Vale’ Federation Cup this season was held pre-season where our first team was unlucky to go down to the Salisbury ‘Bears’ in the second half of extra time, in the first Semi-final, bad luck lads, a commendable effort. The U/23 team was also knocked out of the Cup in the first round against Enfield City, this game also went to extra time, our boys finishing the game with only 10 men after Goalkeeper David Limareff received a bad knock and had to leave the field. Our U/19 side under Tony Tkalec have swept all before them in their Cup chase and have qualified to contest the Final later in the year, well done Tony and boys, you are doing us proud.
On a less brighter note I have to report that two of our U/19 players have sustained serious injuries. Roman Holovati (Fractured Ankle) received his injury in a trial and should be back training with us in the next month or so, however Giovanni Lara, a very promising youngster, playing only his second match for us received a double fracture to the lower leg that had to be plated and is likely to be out for at least 12 months. Get well soon boys.
I would like to wish all teams the best of luck for today and hope our Premier League campaign is a rewarding one for us and the game of soccer.
